近來時尚品牌積極構築融合消費、時尚、文化的新概念旗艦店，以吸引大眾參與原屬於菁英的消費文化，並創造商業價值與品牌廣告效益。LV路易威登台北市中山北路旗艦店，近期進行擴店整修，預計明年重新開幕。屆時，該店將成為台灣精品業界規模最大的旗艦店。
購物商場落成啟用之前，一定會覓妥知名品牌進駐，以吸引人潮。這種進駐的旗艦名店，英文稱為（anchor store），臨近的小店則趁便沾光做生意。它就像團隊裏的明星人物（cornerstone或foundation），是扛大樑的角色。
例："Louis Vuitton and Salvatore Ferragamo will be the anchor stores for the new 101 Shopping Mall." 「LV和Ferragamo即將進駐101，成為商場旗艦店。」
"Sarah is the cornerstone of our team. If something happens to her we would fall apart." 「莎拉是整個團隊的靈魂人物，她有個三長兩短，我們就要完蛋。」
別成罩門 當害群之馬
和靈魂人物相反的角色是（weakest link），中文或可稱為「罩門」或「最弱的一環」。譬如職棒洋基隊擁有豪華打線，但其中有個打者老被三振，打擊火力到他便戛然而止。
爛貨還有一種：電影「親家路窄」（Meet the Fockers）裏，CIA退休老將掌珠愛上男護士，女方一家到男方作客。準泰山大人總覺得女兒可以嫁更好的對象，行前告訴準快婿：如果我們是珠而你們卻不是璧，他就要反對女兒嫁給這個「籮底橙」（a chink in the chain）。
例："However much security technology a company deploys,human nature will always be the weakest link in the chain." 「無論公司裝設的保全設備如何先進，人性永遠是它的罩門。」
"Before any vows are exchanged the in-laws-to-be decide to spend a weekend together, primarily to see if there is a chink in the chain." 「在共締鴛盟之前，男女雙方提議共度周末，以便了解雙方八字是否合得來。」
鍊子（chain）由一環一環（link）環環相扣而成，link是長橢形的環，（圓形環英文稱ring，如魔戒中的戒環）。抖動鍊子或拉動鍊子（pull the chain或rattle the chain），原意是拉狗提醒之意，現在用來形容「激怒別人，讓人家難過」。如果狗用力拉扯，鍊可能因其中最弱的一環無法支撐而損壞，但若整個計畫的每個環節都能發揮功能，業界稱能有「防呆」（fool proof或bullet proof）的效果。
例："Don't worry about Mark's comments, he is just pulling your chain."「別理馬克的話，他只想找你的碴。」
"Linda assures us that the design of the new product is bullet proof."「琳達強調：這個新產品的設計思考周到，無懈可擊。」
知名品牌品質高人一等，是因為在設計過程中，研發人員能夠像高手對弈一樣，算無遺策（to see into the future of the game），而不是「想當然耳」（an educated guess），多算才能在競爭中勝出。
穩操勝券 要算無遺策
兵法上也有「連環計」，以一種多步驟或多環節的謀略（web of deceit），步步相扣，如同長鏈環環相連。對方一個錯著，連鎖反應（a ripple effect）會像丟石到平靜的水面，漣漪不斷，應接不暇，最後全盤皆輸。
例："After telling the boss that she could not work because she was sick, Helen had to invent a whole web of deceit to cover for her imaginary illness. " 「海倫向老闆謊報病假，之後她更施展連環計去掩蓋事實。」
"We were afraid that if we lowered the product price it would cause a ripple effect in our market and have consequences that we did not foresee."「我們擔心，如果降價行動引發連鎖效應，會不會產生意外？」
